HOKA Challenger ATR 6 Impressions

The HOKA Challenger ATR 6 is a “hybrid” or “commuter” trail running shoe that’s suitable for trail and tarmac.

It’s a low-drop shoe with a plush midsole and 4mm lugs. I bought them on sale from HOKA’s outlet store to use as a second pair.

I’ve been running in the Salomon Sense Ride 4 but I really didn’t like them initially. They improved after about 50 miles but aren’t very comfortable on longer runs.

So the Challenger 6 is hopefully going to be my distance shoe when the weather’s dry.

I took them out earlier this week for a short run up to Castell Coch and through Fforest Fawr. They felt great on the tarmac and I could feel the thicker midsole.

This type of trail running shoe can be more unstable than models with a lower stack so I was careful through the forest but it was fine. They felt grippy through the mud despite their less aggressive lug pattern.

They felt a little chunky for the first few hundred yards but I quickly go used to them.

I’m looking forward to a longer run to see how they feel over 10 miles.
