Runs

#CardiffTrails

I’ve been sharing my trail runs on Instagram for a while but I always wanted to publish them on their own site.

My typical runs are between three and thirteen miles. I run from home around the hills of North Cardiff.

I do the occasional road run into the city centre but I don’t log these runs.

After another short break with heat-related foot issues, I’m back on the trails. It was a bit grey but there were lots of runners out and I bumped into a pair doing the Dennison Round.

I was planning to do 16-18 miles today but I went out too fast, expecting it to be cooler. It was really warm and I was struggling so I kept in the shade as much as I could. I did manage to eat some proper food today, which is a first for me. I took…

With a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, I wanted to get a couple of longer runs in. We’re having a heatwave in Cardiff so I headed out early and stayed in the shade. There were loads of people on the Taff Trail but Craig yr Allt was as quiet as usual. The trails…

It’s hot in Cardiff, so I popped out in the morning and stayed in the shade of Fforest Ganol. I’ve just bought a pair of Merrell’s MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx. Shoes are getting pricey so even with £60 off they were still expensive. My first pair have several holes in the upper so I’m…

I hit the trails with enthusiasm after a week off. The weather was better than expected and I felt good after a few miles settling in.

I didn’t enter the Radyr Trail Races this year but I managed to get out and cheer the runners on. I passed lots of runners in Fforest Fawr, so I stopped on the side and cheered them on. I chatted to the marshals at the aid station on the Garth. Most people had passed so…

I went to vote, then I went to run. Voting was easy, the running was harder.

I managed to get out for gentle run over lunch. I had stiff legs after some hill reps on Sunday. This is the view from Fforest Fawr as I stopped for a breather.

I had a quiet week on the running front so I was excited to get out this morning for a long run. The bluebells are still out in the Wenallt so I enjoyed a gentle loop enjoying the colour and dappled light. Then I headed up to Craig yr Allt, which was a lot busier…

The trails are very aromatic right now. Fforest Ganol doesn’t have many bluebells but the wild garlic is intense. I was disappointed not to do the Pentyrch Hill Race last night. I always love this event but the downhill tarmac section is tough on the ol’ knees.
