My current shoe selection includes the HOKA Torrent 2 and HOKA Challenger ATR 6.
The Torrent 2s are my second pair and I love them. They’re light, responsive and perfect for the trails I run.
I bought the Challengers on sale to try a shoe with more padding in the midsole for comfort on longer runs. They’re marketed as a hybrid shoe and aren’t as aggressive as other trail shoes.
I’ve had some issues with locking down the ankle and I’m not convinced if they’re suitable for technical runs. I’m going to keep them for light trails and longer trail/tarmac routes.
New Shoes
Trail shoe prices seem to keep going up so I’ve stopped buying new models and keep an eye on prices for older versions.
There are some new models that are already discounted online though. The New Balance Summit Unknown v4 were recently reviewed by Run4Adventure and look really good.

The HOKA Tecton X are being heavily discounted and features carbon fibre plates! The Ginger Runner liked them and gave them a solid “TRY” in his review.

I stumbled across a favourable review from Seth James DeMoor of the ASICS Fuji Lite 3, which are also on sale.

I’m really keen to try some models and brands I’ve never bought before so I’m going to look into the Summit Unknowns a bit more.
Have you ever had a New Balance trail shoe before? Can you recommend any of these models?
