HOKA Torrent 3 Review

I’ve just clocked up 200 miles in the HOKA Torrent 3 and I wish I’d bought another pair!

I picked these up for a decent discount when they were still quite new and was immediately pleased that they hadn’t changed significantly.

Style

The design of the Torrent 3 is clearly an evolution of the previous version. I’m a big fan of this blue and yellow colour.

The slashes in the midsole and the “electric” upper design create a dynamic look.

Likes

The Torrent 3 is a light, quick and responsive shoe for short training runs and races.

I love paired down, simple shoes that let me feel the trails. The upper feels like soft fabric and fits my standard foot really well.

The lacing system and tongue provide a comfortable fit without too much padding. The heel locks in tightly without me having to worry about lacing up a certain way.

Dislikes

The Achilles heel is, ironically, in the toe!

I noticed in one of my first runs that the outsole lacked grip under the front of my foot. I wondered if it was just a particularly slippery section but then I noticed it a few more times.

It’s a really weird issue as the lugs seem OK and the rest of the outsole feels fine.

Summary

The majority of my runs are short and technical so the Torrent line is perfect for me. They also seem to just fit my foot really well. I was such a fan of the Torrent 2, I ended up buying another pair.

Despite the grip issue I would buy another pair of these if I could get them at a similar price.

I ended up wearing them on dry days and using the Peregrine 13s in the wet. As you can see, it’s taken a while to reach 200 miles with the weather we’ve had!
