It was a quick run before work today so I stayed local and headed up through Fforest Ganol to Cwm Nofydd.

Fforest Ganol and Cwm Nofydd are part of the “Cardiff Beech Woods”. These are of the most westerly naturally-occurring Beech Woods in Britain. The area is protected because of its importance for nature conservation. It is a “Site of Specific Interest” and part of a European network of “Special Areas for Conservation”.

The view is from Rhiwbina Hill, just after you come out of Fforest Ganol. Tongwynlais village is just behind the first row of tress. The houses in the distance are in Radyr. You can just see the water tower poking out of the trees on the left of the photo.

Cwm Nofydd is always lovely and quiet. There’s a steep climb back up to Rhiwbina Hill, where you can run along the road or head straight back down to Fforest Ganol.
