Locations – Castell Coch, Taff Trail South

Distance – 9.5 miles

Elevation – 958 feet

Castell Coch covered in scaffolding with the Garth in the distance

The heatwave finally broke and I set out in glorious Welsh rain! There was a lingering heat but it was lovely and refreshing.

I planned a slightly different route in my head as I left. I went down the Taff Trail then headed back along the top of the canal. I crossed the roundabout and headed up to Greenmeadow Woods before crossing the field overlooking Castell Coch and continuing up to Fforest Fawr.

I bumped into a guy who looked like a serious trail runner. We had a chat as we headed down to the castle. He was from Cardiff but now lives in his van and had just come back from 3 months in Chamonix!

I was feeling good and tempted to extend the run to 10-11 miles but it was getting warmer and I needed to get back.
