It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here! After a two month break with some niggles and complete lack of motivation, I returned with a gentle run/walk. I kept the elevation to a minimum but I still wanted to do a “trail run” so I headed down to the canal. It was really nice…

The heatwave finally broke and I set out in glorious Welsh rain! There was a lingering heat but it was lovely and refreshing. I planned a slightly different route in my head as I left. I went down the Taff Trail then headed back along the top of the canal. I crossed the roundabout and…

A bit further and a bit flatter today. It’s still warm here in Cardiff so I took cover under the trees along the Glamorganshire Canal. As it’s the first of July, I thought I’d look at my stats for the year so far. Despite a long break I’ve managed to do 500 miles and 67,500…

I had some company for the first few miles down the Taff Trail and back. We stopped to take a picture of the leaf man. (Does he have a name?) I split off at 3 miles and went up into Fforest Fawr for a bit of elevation. I’ve been wearing the Peregrine 14s on walks…

Today’s run was a mixture of low heart rate flat sections and some hills to finish. I headed down the Taff Trail for a steady 8 miles and then finished with a little climb up Craig yr Allt for some views. I’m slowly adding to my mileage and trying to fit in multiple 10+ mile…

I was hoping to get some long runs in over the Christmas break but the whole family have been suffering from all the bugs that are going around. I was lucky to escape the worst of it but still didn’t feel up to running. My eldest wanted to get out today so we went down…

After an unplanned break, I’m back with clean kit and feeling fit. The weather was very calm after another storm here in South Wales. I played it safe, however, and stayed off the hills. Instead, opting for a lazy loop around Craig yr Allt. The segment up the Taff Trail is a long gradual climb…

Today’s run is a complete cheat. It’s a combination of two runs, down to Cardiff and back again with a day’s work in between. I wore trail shoes and ran on the Taff Trail so surely this counts?! Anyway, this blog is just a record for me and I make the rules. Plus, the castle…

Today’s run was epic! The cloud inversion in the valley was spectacular. I stopped to grab a photo on the road below and I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. Craig yr Allt, below, looked like an island floating in a sea of cloud. I managed 13 miles and felt pretty…

The weather was cooler today and perfect for running. I ran the long route up the Taff Trail, heading north, from Tongwynlais to the Penrhos Cutting. This is a 1-2% grade segment that looks and feels flat until you realise it’s hurting more than normal. I climbed and descended Craig yr Allt the same way…
